The Field NoteData and AI notes and learnings from the field

About

My name is Michael McCarthy and I’m a builder and field engineer at Databricks. My background is in biochemistry, bioinformatics, and the greater Boston biotech industry, where I worked across various cloud, data, and AI roles, mainly focused on immunology and oncology.

You may be wondering why the world needs another blog. Well, I have two reasons:

  1. Through my day-to-day work I run into many undocumented or unsolved data and AI architectural challenges unique to life science use cases; I want my own platform to share relevant reusable solutions.
  2. I believe that the best way to really understand something is to explain it to others; to dive deep and truly grasp new Databricks features and industry trends, I’m writing for myself just as much as I’m writing to any public audience!

All content on this site is written by hand, without LLMs. Additionally, everything written here is my personal opinion and not that of my employer.
